Bedekar, a Pickles & Spices brand that you have been so fond of for many happy years, is now a century old. From our humble roots as a simple kirana store, Bedekar as a brand is now internationally known, sought out & loved. Here’s our story of a hundred years, 4 generations and trucks full of memories.
Young Mr. V. P. Bedekar left behind his humble home in a little village in Ratnagiri- to come to Mumbai in 1910. After trying his hand at a fair few business ventures, his luck finally favoured a grocery shop that he started in Old Mumbai.
As the business grew, he brought in his son, Vasudeo- fondly known as Annasaheb- as his aide. Little did the father know that his young helper would revolutionise his kirana store. As the years went by, V.P. Bedekar left Annasaheb in charge of the business. Annasaheb eventually expanded the little Kirana store into a multi-store, Trademark Brand. In the year 1921, Bedekars began to manufacture their own Pickles & Spices.
The 3rd generation of the Bedekar Family worked towards establishing a modern, large-scale factory. This factory with its subsequent expansion, served as the main manufacturing location for more than 5 decades. The 3rd generation also worked hard to uphold their Founding Fathers’ dedication to manufacturing quality products. They say- “hard work always pays off”- and it did! Bedekar Pickles were awarded quite a few 1st Prizes in All India Fruit Shows organised by Government of India. The brand- which had started off as a Kirana store- now reached the hearts of many customers across the country.
In 2010, the 4th Generation of the Bedekar Family celebrated as the company turned a Century old. To further the expansion of the company, they established two more factories in Umbergaon. The brand now began to cater to customers around the globe! They also added newer products keep up with the changing lifestyles of global indians. Once known as a traditional household sweet, the Modak, is now available internationally under the proud brand name ‘Bedekar’. Global Indians are welcoming our new products as fondly as their family members
